A Friendly, Caring Church
Sunday mornings include a variety of activities for children birth through the 6th grade.
Our nursery includes four trained staff members that are available during both services (8:30 & 11:00) and Sunday school (9:45-10:45) for infants – 2 year olds. Lessons from the Rock-a-Bye program provide a ministry for children to learn, live, and grow in Christian faith from the moment of birth. Through the use of music and storytelling, teachers nurture children as they begin to understand simple faith concepts and experience the Christian faith. Different components of the program are used during both worship & Sunday school hours. Our nursery is located in room 101 in the Education building. Our staff will get you checked in and give you a beeper so that they can communicate with you if needed during the morning.
SUNDAY SCHOOL (9:45-10:45)
Sunday school is offered each Sunday for preschool through 6th grade. Parents, please remember to both bring and pick up your children from their Sunday school classes.
Live B.I.G. is designed to help children ages 3-4 learn about the love of God through Jesus so they can live their Belief In God. Using a DVD component, leaders go beyond the classroom and engage children with Christian role models and a deeper understanding of Jesus and the impact he can have on their lives. Children will come to know and love God and Jesus so that they can answer the question, “How can I live B.I.G.?” The preschool classroom is located in room 105 in the Education building.
PowerXpress is our new rotation format curriculum for K-5, where children experience the Bible story in many different ways, including Bible story, art, cooking, science, music & games! When children see AND hear AND do, they retain 90% of the experience. As a result, the Bible story and its meaning for them will stay with them for life! Children begin Sunday school in the Sanctuary, and their “shepherds” take them to their activity classrooms in their age groups: K-1, 2-3, & 4-5. There is a sign outside of the Education building that will tell you what activity & classroom your child’s age group is in that day.
Our 6th graders are LIVING THE GOOD NEWS! Kids dig into scripture through art, music, movement and more! It bridges everyday stories with the timeless stories of our Christian Faith, helping this age group see their place in God’s diverse and challenging world. The 6th graders meet in room 205 in the Education building.
Children’s church is offered at both the 8:30 and 11:00 services, for children in PreK 3’s-2nd grade. Currently children’s church involves a storybook for the children, with a craft related to the story. Books cover both Old and New Testament stories, focusing on God’s love and the time of year. We are planning a worship study for January, where children will learn about the different components of worship, while experiencing their own special worship time. Cindy Bradley, who teaches our children in the nursery during Sunday school, leads children’s church with volunteer assistance from the congregation each week. Cindy will escort the children from the sanctuary to children’s church following the children’s sermon. Children’s church is held in rooms 103 & 105 in the Education building. Parents, please pick up your children at the end of the worship service. On days where communion is served, teachers will bring children back into the sanctuary to receive communion, and be seated with their family afterwards.
Children’s Activities & Fellowship
UMKids Fellowship group
UMKids fellowship for 4th, 5th & 6th graders, meets on Sundays from 5:00 – 6:30 in the administration building. There’s snack supper, music, programming, games and mission work! Typically, 2 Sundays per month are spent on our program, 1 doing mission work, & 1 just FUN day when we might go bowling, to the movies, or something else fabulous! We also have an annual retreat, usually in April. Be on the lookout for the fall 2011 schedule in your newsletter and bulletins!
There are several ways that children can be involved in music at St. Andrews. Currently we have a bell choir, the “Rainbow Ringers” that is open to K-3rd grade. They practice on Sundays at 5:00, and perform in worship several times throughout the year. Also, children and youth perform an annual Christmas musical each year. Rehearsals start in September, and are held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The performance this year is December 9th at 7:00 p.m. The cast also traditionally rides in the Jones Creek Christmas Parade to celebrate! Starting this fall is UMKids choir! The beginning of each fellowship meeting will include learning various contemporary songs and traditional hymns that the children will perform in worship.
