Men growing in Christ, so others may know Christ
UMM RETREAT JAN 2015
The 34 men that attended the 2015 St. Andrew’s UMC – United Methodist Men retreat had a joyful, relaxing and enriching time together. Our retreat was held at the Feliciana Retreat Center near Clinton overnight Friday January 23 and through the day Saturday. This is the seventh year. There were men from seven other area churches joining us. We kicked off Friday night with singing and introductions. Our program for the weekend was presented by Rev. Mark Lubbock, a local pastor in the Louisiana Conference and a certified men’s ministry specialist. Mark challenged each of us to examine where we are today in our Christian walk and he sent us away Saturday with the question on our hearts “Where do you go from here?”. Friday night closed with fellowship around a roaring fireplace in the worship center. Saturday morning began with fellowship around the warm fire again before breakfast. Our group enjoyed more singing and
resumed our study. Plenty of personal
time was built in for reflection and
meditation as we walked the woods and lakes of this beautiful property in the hills. The retreat came to a close Saturday afternoon with communion in the beautiful chapel. Men who are seeking the enrichment God gives those who dedicate time to draw nearer to Him are invited to join us next year. Stay Tuned for the 2016 date to be announced!

Church in a Parking Lot
Imagine the parking lot of an old FastTrac hamburger stand that has been converted to a parking lot Church near downtown Baton Rouge! Add 1 large wooden cross, 2 smaller ones, a bunch of palm branches, a blue rug and a man filled with the Holy Spirit and you have a Church.
There were no hymnals, no altar or the other things we associate with church, however, there was an obvious love of God and the sincere desire to worship Him. Pastor Moore assured everyone that Jesus loves them no matter where they lay their head to sleep. Many homeless from the community (often more that 100 men, women and children) are touched each week, lives are changed. God is work in the community.
As Pastor Moore would say "Don't make me do it by myself, let's hear an AMEN!"
Donations to Hope Ministries
St. Andrews United Methodist Men participate in loading, transporting and unloading large donations of food to Hope Ministries. Much of the food will be re-packaged into smaller quantities for distribution to the clients of Hope Ministries who are eligible for Food Pantry Assistance. We help out the first Friday of each month.
United Methodist Children's Home
In February a group of St. Andrews men traveled up to the Ruston, LA Children’s Home for a couple of days and made 167 cases of Salsa in 2 days! The value to the Children's Home is $6012. Keep your eyes open for UMM Salsa sales and please take some home....you will not be disappointed!
Salsa is made in 40 gallon batches. The ingredients are added in carefully measured amounts... :-)
Woodlawn Middle School Reading Garden.
It was brought to our attention that Woodlawn Middle School was needing an outside reading garden. The UMM were approached and asked to build benches for the courtyard garden. What a great project helping provide a place for the kids to gather and read.
